How to Read a Dacor Model Number

Learning how to read a Dacor model number means separating what is genuinely confirmed from what is guesswork, since Dacor has never published an official decode key.

How to read a Dacor model number is a question with a shorter honest answer than most sites give it: a little of the string decodes reliably, and the rest simply does not, because Dacor has never published a single official document explaining every letter position.

What genuinely decodes

The number immediately following the prefix letters is reliably the nominal size in inches — 24, 30, 36, or 48. This holds across confirmed real SKUs: DOP48 is a 48-inch range, DTI36 is a 36-inch cooktop, DRZ18 is an 18-inch column freezer, DDW24 is a 24-inch dishwasher, and PCOR30 is a 30-inch microwave hood. Trailing letters also reliably encode hinge and finish on panel-ready refrigeration: LAP means left-hinge, panel-ready, and RAP means right-hinge, panel-ready, confirmed directly by paired listings that are otherwise identical apart from the hinge side.

What the prefix tells you about appliance type

The letters before the size number identify the appliance category. DOP and DOB are wall ovens (Pro and standard Modernist styles respectively), DTI and DTG are induction and gas cooktops, DDW is a dishwasher, DHD is a range hood, DMR is a drawer microwave, DRF is a French-door refrigerator, DRR is a column refrigerator, DRZ is a column freezer, and DRW is a wine column. Legacy-era appliances use different prefixes entirely: ER30D/ER36D/ER48D for ranges and EDW/IDW for dishwashers.

What is not confirmed, and should not be treated as fact

No single Dacor-published document decodes every letter position in a model string. Beyond the size number and the LAP/RAP hinge suffix, any further claim about what a specific letter “means” is pattern-inference from real listings, not an official rule, and should be treated with appropriate caution. This site will not assert a decode for every character simply to look more authoritative.

Prefixes that do not exist — a genuine trap

Several prefixes circulate online that do not correspond to any real, shipped Dacor SKU: DHW, DWR, DYF, HWHP, and PGM. The real range-hood prefix is DHD, not DHW. The real wine-column prefix is DRW, not DWR. No confirmed SKU exists under DYF, HWHP, or PGM. If a parts listing or a repair site references one of these five prefixes, treat that as a red flag rather than a genuine Dacor model family.

Why getting this right matters before ordering a part

Ordering a part against a fabricated prefix, or against a guessed decode of a letter position that was never actually confirmed, risks the wrong component arriving entirely. The size number and the appliance-type prefix are worth confirming carefully; everything else in the string is best treated as a label to quote verbatim to a technician rather than something to decode yourself.

Where to go from here

Our model directory lists real, confirmed Dacor SKUs by appliance type, and our guide library covers the two generations this prefix system sits inside. Have your complete model number ready, copied exactly as it appears on the rating plate, before booking a repair. Dacor’s own site lists current models under each of these confirmed prefixes.
