Hinge and panel alignment
A panel-ready door front is heavier than a standard refrigerator door and is more prone to gradual sagging at the hinge over years of use, which shows up first as a slightly uneven reveal gap along the door’s edge rather than as an obvious cooling problem. Checking that the gap is even across the top, side, and bottom of the door once or twice a year catches this early, before it becomes significant enough to affect the seal.
The Push-to-Open latch mechanism
Handle-free columns rely on a Push-to-Open latch that releases with a light, deliberate push near the handle location, and this mechanism benefits from an occasional check that it releases cleanly on the first attempt rather than needing repeated pushes. A latch that is beginning to stick is a mechanical maintenance item, separate entirely from the refrigeration system, and catching it early avoids a door that eventually will not release at all.
Condenser clearance behind built-in cabinetry
Because column refrigeration is installed flush with surrounding cabinetry, the rear condenser area is less accessible than on a freestanding refrigerator, which makes it easy to forget entirely. Whatever access panel or vent path the installation provides is worth checking for dust buildup on the same twice-yearly schedule as any other refrigerator, since restricted airflow in a built-in installation has fewer places to dissipate heat than a freestanding unit would.
What maintenance covers, and what it does not
Hinge, latch, and clearance checks address the mechanical and cabinetry side of a panel-ready column; they do not substitute for a genuine refrigeration diagnosis if the app is showing an Abnormally High Temperature alarm despite a well-maintained door and clear airflow. Treat the two as separate concerns worth checking independently.

A twice-yearly walk-around — checking the reveal gap, testing the latch, and glancing at whatever condenser access the cabinetry allows — takes a few minutes per column and heads off a meaningful share of the door-alarm and seal complaints this installation style generates.
