Dacor rangetop installation differs from a range or cooktop install in one important respect: because a rangetop has no integrated ventilation of its own, a separate range hood always has to be planned and installed alongside it, not added as an afterthought.
Confirm the size and burner count first
The 36-inch DTT36T960GS and 48-inch DTT48T963GS both run six main burners, with the 48-inch model adding a griddle or simmer-burner zone. Confirming which size and configuration before finalizing cabinetry and gas rough-in avoids a mismatch between the ordered unit and the prepared opening.
Gas line sizing
A gas rangetop with six sealed burners, potentially plus a griddle zone, needs a supply line sized for the full simultaneous demand of every burner running at once, not just an average expected load. This is a job for a licensed gas installer, both for sizing the line correctly and for the connection and leak-testing that follows.
Planning the range hood in tandem
Because this platform has no integrated exhaust, the paired range hood needs to be sized and positioned specifically for the rangetop’s width and burner layout — a hood undersized relative to a six-burner rangetop with a griddle zone will underperform regardless of how well the rangetop itself is installed. Selecting rangetop and hood together, rather than treating the hood as a separate later decision, avoids this mismatch.
Clearance to combustible materials
Cabinetry, backsplash materials, and any overhead surfaces near a gas rangetop need to respect manufacturer-specified clearances to combustible materials, particularly given the heat output of six burners running simultaneously. This clearance requirement should be confirmed against the specific model’s installation instructions before cabinetry is finalized, not assumed from a general range clearance figure.
Electrical and connectivity requirements
Even though the rangetop itself is gas-fueled, Illumina knob lighting and SmartThings connectivity both require an electrical connection, which needs to be planned into the cutout alongside the gas line rather than added afterward.
Whether this is a DIY project
Given the gas-line sizing, the combustible-clearance requirements, and the coordination needed with a separately installed hood, this installation is squarely a job for licensed professionals rather than a homeowner project, regardless of general cabinetry experience.
