How it works in practice
When a lit burner’s flame goes out unexpectedly, Perma-Flame senses the loss and triggers the igniter again automatically, restoring the flame without any action from the cook. This matters most for simmering sauces or stocks left unattended for stretches, where a draft or a boil-over blowing out a low flame would otherwise go unnoticed until the dish stopped cooking.

The one limitation worth understanding before you call
An owner reporting “the burner keeps going out” often assumes the reignition feature itself has failed, but the more common underlying cause is a fouled or worn spark electrode that defeats even a correctly functioning Perma-Flame system entirely — the reignition logic tries to relight the burner, but a weak or dirty igniter cannot produce a spark reliable enough to catch. Cleaning the igniter tip and the area immediately around it resolves a meaningful share of these calls before any part needs replacing.
What this feature does not cover
Perma-Flame addresses an already-lit burner that goes out; it is not a substitute for checking gas supply, grate alignment, or a clogged burner port if a burner will not light at all in the first place. If a burner never catches on the first attempt, that points toward the ignition or gas-delivery path generally, separate from whether Perma-Flame is functioning.
