What LC actually means
LC signals that the dishwasher’s leak-detection system has physically detected water where it should not be, inside the base pan beneath the tub. This is not a sensor glitch to dismiss; the leak-detection float or sensor has to actually register standing water for the code to display in the first place.
What to do the moment LC appears
Shut off the water supply at the valve under the sink and switch off the breaker feeding the dishwasher before doing anything else. Do not attempt to run another cycle to “clear” the code, since continuing to fill the tub while a leak condition exists risks more water reaching the surrounding cabinetry and flooring.
What commonly causes it
A failed door gasket, a loose or cracked drain-hose connection, or a supply-line fitting that has worked loose over time are the most common sources of the standing water that triggers LC. Less commonly, condensation from a separate issue can pool in the same area and trigger the same alert, which is why a technician needs to physically inspect the base pan rather than diagnose blind from the code alone.
How this differs from the Legacy equivalent
The Legacy EDW/IDW dishwasher platform does not use LC at all — its closest equivalent is F-6, described in the service manual as a Floor Guard problem, referring to Dacor’s own Aqua-Stop-style leak-detection system on that older architecture. F-6 and LC describe the same underlying kind of failure — a physical leak-detection trip — on two entirely different platforms with entirely different displayed strings, which is worth knowing if you are trying to search for information using the wrong era’s code.
What not to assume
LC does not mean the dishwasher itself is unusable forever, and it is not evidence of a major electrical problem — it is specifically a water-presence signal from the leak-detection hardware. Once the water supply and breaker are off, the appliance is safe to leave in that state until a technician arrives.
