What Floor Guard actually does
Floor Guard monitors for water reaching a base pan beneath the dishwasher tub where it should never be during normal operation. This kind of secondary leak-detection layer is common across many premium dishwasher brands under different marketing names, and Dacor’s Legacy platform documents its own version as part of the controller/Floor Guard error-code entry specifically.
Why F-6 is High severity and not just informational
Unlike a maintenance reminder or a minor sensor failure, F-6 means water has physically been detected somewhere it should not be, with real potential for damage to flooring and cabinetry if left unaddressed. Dacor’s own service documentation groups this alongside F-7 (EEPROM failure) as one of the platform’s more serious problem categories, both warranting prompt attention rather than a wait-and-see approach.
What commonly trips Floor Guard
A degraded door gasket, a loose supply-line or drain-hose fitting, or a crack in the tub or sump area are the most common physical sources of the water Floor Guard detects. Because the system is designed to be sensitive — catching a leak early is the entire point — even a small, slow leak can be enough to trigger F-6 well before it becomes visible on the kitchen floor.
What to do when F-6 displays
Shut off the water supply valve and the breaker feeding the dishwasher before doing anything else, the same immediate response appropriate for the Samsung-era platform’s equivalent LC code. Do not run another cycle to see if the code clears, since doing so risks feeding more water into an area that has already been flagged as compromised.
How this relates to the Samsung-era platform
Samsung-era Modernist dishwashers do not use Floor Guard terminology or the F-6 designation at all — their leak-detection failure displays as LC instead, on a platform built around entirely different control hardware. The underlying purpose, catching a leak early, is the same concept implemented on two unrelated systems decades apart.

Any F-6 code warrants a service visit given the water-damage risk of misjudging it, rather than resetting and hoping the condition does not recur.
