F5 (failed self-diagnostic) and F6 (EEPROM checksum error) both call for full ERC board replacement, the most expensive single repair on the Classic ERC oven platform. On an oven that is already decades old, replacing the control board is a meaningful expense relative to the appliance’s remaining service life, which is exactly the situation where repair-versus-replace becomes worth weighing seriously.
What favors repair
If the oven is otherwise in good physical condition — door seal intact, cavity and racks undamaged, no history of repeated unrelated problems — and a genuine OEM board is available through a trusted parts supplier, repair keeps a well-built appliance in service rather than sending it to a landfill over one component. Dacor built the Classic ERC platform to a high standard, and a board swap on an otherwise sound oven is often the more economical choice.
What favors replacement
If the oven has already needed other significant repairs, if genuine parts are becoming difficult to source for that specific Classic ERC sub-family, or if the household would prefer a Samsung-era Modernist oven’s newer features anyway, replacement becomes the more reasonable path. Why Samsung-era ovens rarely reach this same question
Current Modernist ovens are new enough, and Samsung-backed parts distribution active enough, that a board-level communication problem (C-F0, C-F2) is more straightforwardly a repair than a replacement decision at this point in the platform’s life. This repair-versus-replace question is specifically a Legacy-era consideration for now.
