A SmartThings Dacor appliance is any Samsung-era Dacor unit connected to Samsung’s SmartThings home-automation platform, which is how an owner receives app alarms, monitors status remotely, and — on some models — starts or adjusts a cycle from a phone.
Where this connectivity actually comes from
Samsung Electronics America announced its agreement to acquire Dacor in August 2016, with the sale closing the following month. SmartThings integration followed quickly rather than years later: Samsung shipped a dedicated “Dacor iQ” remote-control app update in March 2017, roughly six months after the acquisition closed, confirming this was an early, deliberate integration rather than a later add-on.
What SmartThings actually does on a Dacor appliance
For refrigeration — refrigerators, freezers, column units, and the wine column — SmartThings delivers the four named alarms documented in each unit’s manual: Self Check, Abnormally High Temperature, Door Open (or Door Opening on the wine column), and Filter Replacement. On column refrigeration paired installations, iQ RemoteView adds interior cameras viewable through the app. On ovens and ranges, the connected app lets an owner start and monitor cooking remotely.
What it is not
SmartThings connectivity is not an error-code system in itself — the alarms it delivers are named, plain-language alerts, not alphanumeric codes, and an app showing a unit “offline” describes a Wi-Fi connectivity problem, not a cooling or heating problem. It is also worth being precise about the corporate relationship: Dacor is a wholly owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics America and Samsung is the platform provider here, but the two brands are never the same appliance, and no shared part number should be assumed just because SmartThings connects them.
