This Dacor range hood buying guide covers three distinct configurations in the current DHD lineup: the Pro-Canopy wall hood, the chimney wall hood, and the liner insert, each built for a different kitchen layout rather than being interchangeable style choices.
Pro-Canopy wall hood
The DHD36U990CS and DHD48U990CS are Pro-Canopy wall hoods, both measuring 18 inches high by 25 inches deep at their respective 36- and 48-inch widths, with LED lighting and glass touch controls. This configuration suits a kitchen wanting a substantial, professional-style hood as a visible design feature above the cooking surface.
Chimney wall hood
The DHD30U990WS is a chimney wall hood, with a taller adjustable height range of 30.25 to 42 inches at 24 inches deep. This configuration suits ceilings where the hood needs to telescope to fit the specific ceiling height, a common need in kitchens without a standard 8-foot ceiling.
Liner insert
The DHD36U790LS, DHD30U790LS, and DHD48U790LS are liner inserts, a slim 5.44-inch-high unit meant to be concealed inside custom cabinetry or a decorative hood enclosure built by a kitchen designer, rather than being visible as a finished hood itself. This suits a kitchen design where the visible hood exterior is a custom millwork element and the Dacor unit provides only the ventilation mechanics inside it.
Matching the hood to your rangetop or range
If you are also selecting a rangetop, remember that a rangetop has no integrated ventilation of its own, so the hood needs to be sized specifically for that rangetop’s width and burner count. A range, by contrast, may already include some ventilation consideration in cabinetry planning, but a properly sized hood remains worth confirming regardless of appliance type.
What none of these three show you when something goes wrong
Worth knowing before buying: this platform publishes no error codes at all. The official Heritage Range Hood User Manual documents every problem as plain-English troubleshooting — “Fan not working,” “Light(s) not working” — with no coded display on any configuration.
Where to go from here
Our range hood appliance page covers all three configurations in more detail, and our range hood error codes page explains what to expect if something goes wrong. Dacor’s own site lists current dimensions and specifications, and our scheduling page is available for an existing hood needing service.
