Dacor microwave installation looks completely different depending on configuration — the DMR30M977WS drawer microwave and the PCOR30S over-the-range convection microwave hood share a brand and a lack of error codes, but almost nothing about their physical installation.
Installing the drawer microwave
The DMR30M977WS installs into a lower-cabinet cutout, requiring a dedicated electrical circuit and a cutout sized precisely to the 30-inch unit’s specifications, plus adequate cabinetry support given the drawer mechanism’s weight when fully extended and loaded. No ventilation ducting is required for this configuration, since it has no hood function.
Installing the PCOR30S over-the-range unit
The PCOR30S requires full range-hood ventilation planning — a duct run sized to its rated airflow, routed as directly as possible to the exterior — in addition to a dedicated electrical circuit for the microwave and convection functions. Mounting height above the range affects both cooking performance underneath and ventilation capture efficiency, and should follow the model’s specific installation instructions rather than a general assumption.
Why choosing between the two changes your ventilation plan entirely
Choosing the PCOR30S eliminates the need for a separate DHD-series range hood, since ventilation is built into this unit. Choosing the drawer configuration means ventilation above the range still needs to be handled by a separate hood, planned and budgeted independently of the microwave decision.
Electrical requirements for either configuration
Both configurations need a dedicated circuit sized to the manufacturer’s specification for that specific model — this is not a shared-circuit appliance given the power draw of microwave and, on the PCOR30S, convection heating functions running together.
Whether this is a DIY project
Given the cabinetry support needed for a loaded drawer mechanism, or the ductwork and mounting-height precision needed for an over-the-range unit, both configurations are better suited to professional installation than a first-time DIY attempt, particularly where ventilation ducting is involved.
