Why this alarm fires, and why the compressor is rarely the first thing to check
Cabinet temperature drifting above the expected range triggers this alarm well before the interior feels noticeably warm to the touch, so owners are often surprised the app is flagging anything at all. Blocked airflow at the rear grille or condenser, a door that has been left slightly ajar by something in a door bin, or a recent large grocery load are all more common causes than an actual compressor failure, and each one clears on its own within a few hours once the obstruction is removed.
What to physically check before assuming a part has failed
Pull the unit forward enough to inspect the rear condenser area for dust buildup or a blocked vent path, since restricted airflow is the single most common cause behind a persistent version of this alarm. Check every door bin and shelf for anything resting against the door seal, and confirm the door swings fully closed under its own weight without needing a shove. If the refrigerator sits in a garage, sunroom, or otherwise unconditioned space, ambient temperature swings outside the appliance’s rated operating range can also trigger this alert without any internal problem at all.
How long is too long
A brief spike after a large grocery haul or an extended door-open event is expected and typically clears within a few hours as the compressor catches up. An alarm that persists for a full day or longer, especially with no obvious airflow or door-seal issue, is a different situation and worth documenting: note how long the alarm has been active and whether the compressor is audibly running continuously, since both details help a technician scope the visit before arriving.
What this alarm is not
This alarm is unrelated to the Door Open alert, which fires purely on a timer regardless of internal temperature, and it is not the same as the app showing the unit “offline,” which is a Wi-Fi connectivity issue rather than a refrigeration problem. Multiple repair-blog sites attribute numeric codes such as 5E, 21E, 22E, and 41E to Dacor refrigerators; none of these appear in either the French Door or Column Refrigerator manuals reviewed for this research, and the alarm you actually see will always be one of the four named alerts, never a numeric string.
