What F2 means on your Dacor range (dacor range f2)
Dacor range f2 carries two distinct, documented meanings, and both matter depending on your range’s platform. On the Classic ERC sheet, F2 is “Heating Mode High Temperature” — a runaway heat condition where the ERC has read cavity temperature climbing above what a normal cycle should ever reach and shuts the elements off, most often from a welded relay contact or a failed temperature sensor. On the separate ER30D/ER36D/ER48D range technical manual, F2 instead means a communication problem between the control panel and the relay board — the two halves of the range’s control system have stopped talking to each other, which the manual also rates High severity even though the underlying cause is different from a runaway-heat event. How to tell which applies: check your range’s model number for ER30D, ER36D or ER48D; if it is not one of those three, the runaway-heat Classic ERC meaning is the one in effect, and it is the more urgent of the two to act on immediately.
Symptoms
A range rarely tells you plainly what is wrong, so these are the signs that point at F2 rather than at another range problem.
- On the Classic ERC platform: F2 appears and the oven immediately stops heating, sometimes with a loud click and a noticeably hot cavity.
- On the ER30D/36D/48D platform: F2 appears with the control panel becoming unresponsive to oven commands while the relay board itself may still be receiving power.
- A burning or hot-metal smell may accompany a Classic ERC F2, especially the first time it trips.
- On either platform, the range may have been running an unattended, extended cook when the problem triggered.
- Subsequent oven attempts can trip F2 again quickly on the Classic ERC platform if the relay has welded closed.
Common causes
More than one thing can produce F2 on a range, so the causes below are ordered by how often they turn out to be responsible on a Dacor range.
- Welded relay contact (Classic ERC) — the bake or broil relay has fused closed and cannot de-energize the element.
- Failed or drifting temperature sensor (Classic ERC) — the sensor under-reports cavity temperature, so heating continues past the safe point.
- Damaged data connection (ER30D/36D/48D) — the link between the control panel and relay board has a broken or corroded wire.
- Relay board failure (ER30D/36D/48D) — the board itself is not responding to the control panel’s commands.
- Control panel failure (either platform) — the panel is not sending or receiving signals correctly.
Troubleshooting steps you can try
Run these checks on your Dacor range in the order given, stopping at the first that asks you to open the range up or touch anything electrical.
- Check your range’s model number for ER30D, ER36D or ER48D before deciding how urgently to respond.
- If your range is on the Classic ERC platform (not one of the three ER models), turn it off and cut power at the breaker immediately — do not leave it running or unattended.
- If your range is an ER30D/36D/48D, power-cycle at the breaker once and check whether the oven controls respond normally afterward.
- Do not attempt to restart a bake cycle repeatedly on the Classic ERC platform — a welded relay will not clear itself.
- Note your model number and whether the cavity felt abnormally hot when reporting the problem for service.
