A Dacor range wont preheat symptom, specifically on the oven cavity rather than the cooktop burners, shares much of its diagnostic path with a standalone wall oven, but the range platform adds a few of its own considerations.
Check for a displayed code first
On a Legacy Classic ERC range, F3 or F4 point to a shorted or open temperature sensor. On the ER30D/36D/48D platform, F30 or F31 describe the equivalent sensor failures. On a Samsung-era Modernist Pro range, C-20 or C-21 cover this same territory. If any of these is displaying, that is the confirmed problem, not a general slow-preheat complaint.
Confirm dual-fuel operation is behaving as expected
On a dual-fuel range, the cooktop burners run on gas while the oven runs on electric convection — a burner-ignition problem on the gas side has no bearing on oven preheat performance, since the two systems are electrically and mechanically separate on this platform. Ruling out which side of the range is actually affected avoids chasing the wrong system.
Check the oven door seal
The same door-seal logic that applies to a standalone wall oven applies here: a degraded or grease-caked gasket lets heat escape during preheat, which can look like a slow or underpowered oven even with fully functional elements. This is worth checking before assuming an electrical problem.
Consider Steam-Assist or Dual Four-Part Pure Convection status
On models equipped with Steam-Assist, confirm a steam-assisted mode was not selected unintentionally, since these modes behave differently from standard bake in timing. On 48-inch double-cavity ranges running Dual Four-Part Pure Convection, confirm which cavity is actually in use, since a problem isolated to one cavity’s system will not necessarily affect the other.
What this is probably not
A slow-preheating oven cavity with no displayed code is more often a seal or calibration issue than a relay-board or power-board failure — the more expensive repair category on this platform is usually accompanied by an actual code, not a silent performance complaint.
When to book service
A displayed error code, or a persistent preheat problem after confirming the door seal and correct mode selection, is worth an experienced technician’s diagnosis.
