Dacor induction cooktop models are named by width and series: DTI30 is a 30-inch induction cooktop and DTI36 is a 36-inch one, and the letters and digits after that mark the series. To choose, match the width to your cutout, confirm the circuit your kitchen can supply, check that your cookware is magnetic, and leave the clearance below the glass that the installation sheet asks for. Confirm every figure against the spec sheet of the exact model.

Induction is the fastest and most controllable way to cook on glass, and Dacor sells it in a few sizes and series. The three Dacor induction models that show up most on this site, the DTI30M977BB, the DTI36M977BB and the DTI36P876BB, look alike from the front, but they differ in width and series, and a cooktop that does not fit its cutout or its circuit is a costly mistake. This guide to Dacor induction cooktop models explains how to read the model number, how to compare 30-inch and 36-inch sizes, what the electrical supply must provide and what to check before you order. Specs change by year, so treat the table as a map.

What does a Dacor induction cooktop model number mean?

Read the number in parts. DT marks a Dacor cooktop, and the letter after it tells you the heat source: DTI is induction, while DTG is gas, as in the DTG36M955FM on this site. The next two digits are the width in inches, so DTI30 is 30 inches wide and DTI36 is 36 inches wide. After that comes a letter that goes with the collection: on our model pages the M models are in Dacor’s Contemporary collection and the P model is in its Transitional collection. A three-digit group follows. The end letters appear to go with the finish (our pages list BB models in Black Glass and the DTG36M955FM in Graphite Stainless), so confirm them on the spec sheet. If you are not sure which family you own, our guide to how to read a Dacor model number explains the logic across the whole brand.

Each of these has its own page, for example the DTI36M977BB and the DTI30M977BB, which you can open to see what the site lists for the model.

Should I choose a 30-inch or a 36-inch Dacor induction cooktop?

The cutout decides first. Measure the opening in the counter and compare it with the installation sheet, because a cooktop cannot be forced into a smaller space, and a gap around a smaller cooktop looks unfinished. If both sizes would fit, think about how you cook. A 30-inch model is enough for a household that rarely runs more than two or three large pans at once. A 36-inch cooktop gives more room between zones and usually more zones in total, which helps when you cook for a crowd or use large pots and griddle-style cookware.

Check how the zones are arranged and sized. Large zones suit stockpots and big skillets, small ones suit a saucepan. Some zones can be combined to run a long pan, and the spec sheet says so when they can. Compare the number and sizes of zones on the models you are looking at rather than assuming that a wider cooktop means more of every kind.

What electrical supply does an induction cooktop need?

Induction cooktops draw serious power and need a dedicated 240-volt circuit with wiring sized for the load. The amperage differs by model and width, and a wider cooktop usually draws more, so read the installation sheet before you plan the wiring. Have a licensed electrician check the circuit and make the connection; do not assume an old electric range circuit will do. If the voltage is wrong or unstable, the cooktop may refuse to start. Our guide to the Dacor cooktop A2 and UP codes shows what a voltage problem looks like on the display, which is worth knowing before you ever need it.

Think about the circuit breaker and any shared loads. A cooktop sharing a circuit with another large appliance can trip when both run. If your kitchen is being remodeled, ask the electrician to install the circuit before the countertop goes in.

If a magnet sticks firmly to the pan, it will work on induction.

Will my pots and pans work on a Dacor induction cooktop?

Only magnetic cookware heats. Cast iron and most stainless steel pans work, while aluminum, copper and glass do not unless they have a magnetic layer on the base. Test a pan with a refrigerator magnet: if it sticks firmly to the bottom, the pan will work. A pan with a warped or very small base may heat poorly or be ignored, and the cooktop may beep. If a zone seems to ignore a pan, the page on a pan that is not detected explains the usual reasons.

It is worth budgeting for a few pans if your set is mostly aluminum. Flat bases, a size close to the zone and smooth bottoms give the best result and protect the glass from scratches. For a wider comparison with gas, read our Dacor cooktop buying guide, and for day-to-day habits the induction cooktop tips.

What should I check about the cutout, clearance and ventilation?

An induction cooktop has electronics and a cooling fan under the glass, and it needs free space below. Read the installation sheet for the minimum depth and the required clearance between the cooktop and any oven, drawer or cabinet beneath it, and do not store items against the underside. Plan ventilation as well: induction makes less heat and fewer fumes than gas, but frying and searing still produce grease and steam, so pair the cooktop with a suitable hood. Our Dacor range hood buying guide helps you choose one that matches the width.

A fan that hums during use is normal. A loud rattle or a fan that stops is not, and the Dacor cooktop C0, C1 and C2 sensor codes guide explains codes that relate to the cooling and sensing circuits.

When should I repair an existing induction cooktop instead of buying a new one?

If the glass is intact and one zone or a sensor has failed, a repair is often the sensible choice; if the glass is cracked or the control and power board have both failed, replacement is worth considering. The new guide on Dacor cooktop repair or replace sets out the signs, and the Dacor cooktop repair page shows what a visit covers. You can also schedule a visit for an opinion.

Frequently asked questions
What does DTI mean on a Dacor cooktop?
DTI marks a Dacor induction cooktop. DTG marks gas. The two digits after it give the width in inches, so a DTI36 is a 36-inch induction cooktop.
What power does a Dacor induction cooktop need?
A dedicated 240-volt circuit. The amperage varies by model and width, so read the installation sheet and have a licensed electrician make the connection.
Do I need new pots for a Dacor induction cooktop?
Only if yours are not magnetic. If a magnet sticks firmly to the base, the pan works. Aluminum, copper and glass need a magnetic layer.
Which is better, a 30-inch or a 36-inch Dacor induction cooktop?
It depends on your cutout and how many pans you use at once. If you need help choosing or the cooktop is failing, book a visit.
